Nature: Up Close & Slithery!

Who We Are

Scaly Tailz provides educational reptile and amphibian demonstrations in the Bloomington, IN area (schools, school events, Wonderlab, Monroe County Public Library, and so forth!).  We talk about the animals we have brought to a demo, and also talk about wildlife conservation, and the ways to be responsible pet owners.  We also offer a safe and loving forever home for reptiles and amphibians who have been abandoned, or who need to be re-homed.  Currently, we are unable to take in crocodilians or any venomous species.  Also, we are unable to take in Iguanas, or very large snakes...but we have experienced and willing volunteers who are able to help with this.

Scaly Tailz was started by Sheryl Mitchell, who got into reptiles and amphibians many, many (well, maybe not THAT many, lol) years ago, when she was caring for animals at a local pet store.  When her son's teachers discovered her unique pets, they were eager to have her come and share them with the students.  She has been doing educational demos for almost 16 years now!  Several years ago, Sheryl realized that there was a need for a reptile and amphibian rescue, and/or sanctuary, and began taking in herps that needed new homes.

Sheryl is assisted by Darin Bagley.  He helps both with the demonstrations, and with the day-to-day animal care requirements.  Sheryl really and truly appreciates Darin's assistance, hard work, and patience!

Sheryl is also assisted by her two sons, Wes and Claude.  They are a very big help to her, and she really appreciates their hard work!

We are in the process of applying for a 501(c)3 nonprofit status for Scaly Tailz.  More news on that as it happens.
